On the 20th & 21st August LSMBC had 2 club representatives in the opening event on the Short Mat Players Tour Calender.

The event had 144 Players from all parts of the UK and Europe competing for World Ranking Points. 

Regular Skip Chris Hillier and Tournament Lead Cath R****** were drawn into groups of 6 for the event. Hillier having stars as Defending Champion Gary McNabb and Gloucester Knights regular Olie Hipkiss had Mixed Fortunes in the group after having an amazing start getting strong results in his first two games only to fall at the last 3 but with a healthy shot difference and head to head wins qualified for the middle tier "Plate" tournament.

Catherine before the event had only registered 1 win on the 3 outings on the tour but this weekend was her best yet as she won 2 drew 1 and lost 2, this event was the first time she had qualified for the middle tier which was a fantastic achievement for her.

In the Knock Outs Cath fell at the first stage after a close game crept away in the final ends. Christopher came up against English International and regular top 10 player Lee Toleman who met before in the world pairs where Toleman Dominated the game but this event was different as Hillier finally beat a top 10 player on the tour. After such a big Win he fell in the Last 32 to Gary Stanway.

As it Stands Hillier has retained his 149 World Ranking and improved his Order of merit to 75 and also Catherine has jumped upto 310 in the world rankings and also 84 in the order of merit.
